I
Turkey

The Turkish pop scene always has kept it's exotic character mixing influences from the Ottoman, Anatolian and Arabesque culture. Combined with western pop it makes music that, for western ears, is build on the atonal orchestral melodies and western sounding blues and pop.
Mainly thanks to composers like Aksu and Manço who not blindly copied western music but adapted it into their musical heritage and in doing created a unique sound. Because of it's, to western-european ears, strange structure it took years before we got used to the Turkish entry's at the Eurovision. Inch Allah that they kept trying.
