Eighties Bookmark and Share

In 1982 the military would return the government to civilian hands. Economically it wasn’t all wine and roses however. A lot of Turks spread over Europe in search of work. This triggered a whole scene of pianist balladry with Ümit Besen at the rudder. Or the pop artists also the motherland to live and perform in Germnay and France (amongst others). A singer like for instance Zerrin Özer performed "Binbir Gece" ("Thousand and one nights") concerts in 1982 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. A year later Özer performed in Olympia Hall in Paris.

The former seventies stars would still be active but it would take until the end of the eighties when performers Hakan Peker and Aşkın Nur Yengi. Folk music also made a reappereance with acts like Mazhar-Fuat-Özkan (commonly referred to as MFÖ), Yeni Türkü and Ezginin Günlüğü.
