Jenni Vartiainen

20 March 1983

Jenni Vartiainen was born in Kuopio, Finland. She started her career in 2002 by winning the first edition of 'Pop stars' in Finland, together with three other girls. With two of them she founded the girl band Gimmel, which recorded two albums. Despite commercial succes - the first album went platinum - the band split in 2004.

In 2007 Jenni released her first solo single, 'Tunnoton' ('Numb') in April 2007, followed by her debut album 'Ihmisten edessä' ('In front of the public') in September 2007. It sold 40,000 copies and reached platinum status. The title song of the album is a plea for tolerance and according to some people it tells a story about the love between two women. Jenni about the subject: "People can interprit it any way they want to, but it does tell a story about a bit different kind of love. The lyrics were so amazing that I wanted to sing about this subject.""Even though most of the songs on this album haven't been written by me, I've had many conversations about the themes/subjects with the writers".

In March 2010 Jenni's seccond album was released, 'Seili' ('Ever after'). Only in the first week it sold 45,000 copies. The album went double platinum and the first single, 'En haluu kuolla tänä yönä' ('I don't want to die tonight') reached the first spot in the Finnish charts.

Jenni Vartiainen has a remarkable deep voice. She co-writes many of the songs on her second album, which have often very emotional lyrics. Her music is europop, with both gothic and electronic elements.

What do we think:

PR: This girl is really something special... She has a fantastic deep, dark voice. Het music sounds mysterious and intruiging. Her first solo album is a nice debut, but the successor 'Seili' is fantastic! It did not come out of the cd-player for many, many months. Do not be deterred by the fact that Jenni is a Pop stars winner - this girl produces europop at its best.
